Was the Thief with Jesus in Death "That Day"?
There is much disagreement on this. Some say “the same day as the Crucifixion”; others that the phraseology means; “I tell you this day”, which meant that Jesus was giving advanced knowledge regarding His position in the 1st. resurrection, because of the malefactors trust in Jesus!
My opinion is that Jesus was telling him that because of his trust; he was included in the Body of Christ Jesus, no matter whether Jesus returned to Earth soon after His Ascension (in which case John the Baptist would have “been as Elijah”) or as Israel rejected Jesus at Acts 28:25–28; much later as per the description in Matt. 24 and elsewhere!
So; as we await our Lord’s return as yet, the “malefactor” will be in the translated “saints”, who return with Jesus!
That is my personal opinion!
